At a time when most brands and companies are focused on the formulas and artwork of their products (which is great), good packaging is becoming more important and harder to find. I’m writing this as I’m so frustrated with multiple products where packaging is a key element of the user experience and where its so lacking, so let’s talk about it.
Take for example those new bottle caps for drinks which I don’t know who thought “hey let’s give our customers a sprained wrist trying to open them?” I understand the importance of sealed products but are those seals being tested by average people ? Some of these bottle brands I’ve stopped buying as I’m left with a sore wrist and an allergic reaction on my palm from trying to open the cap multiple times from how tight its sealed.
Another one is under eye patches (under eye masks). Now I know, I know these are not necessities but they are becoming more and more popular and a decent way to de-puff tired eyes which I think many of us now have. I can’t tell you how many times the under eye patches fell on the floor and got thrown away because once the sachet was open it slipped on the floor. Or when I cut the sachet and the eye patches were stuck there and they got cut as well. I mean this is what determines if people use the product again or not, and in the past three years the only change I’ve seen for these patches is just more advertisements. Now I know this can be fixed, why you ask? Because there is one brand, which I’ve switched to recently where the patches are individually packaged on a strip, non slip, don’t get cut opening the pack, and don’t fall off my face doing chores when I have the patches on. Again are they testing these products with average customers? Cause most of us don’t lie down like in the movies with an under eye patch on and cucumber circles on our eyes. We’re actually running around the house, organizing things, unloading and loading the dishwasher, or writing a blog post with an under eye patch on. (cough cough). And we’d appreciate a product that can work within our routine not against it.
Let me know in the comments, what are some of your frustrating product packaging experiences ?
Till next time 🙂 !
