I’ve noticed recently I’ve been getting more advertisements from retailers through text messages, so let us break down if they still work as a method of marketing or not?
So for brands that I actually purchase from and like their products, I’m actually really liking this. I’m informed when there is a sale or a promotion and I get my favorite stuff with a good deal. When I don’t need new items, I can just inform my friends about the promo instead. It is also short and quick to read, unlike a long newsletter where you’re looking for the relevant info. So text messages seem to be working if you’re looking for the below and as long as you don’t spam the customer with more than one message every few months:
- to nudge your customers to buy during promos and discounts
- to inform your customers of new collections
- to spread word of mouth, where customers inform friends and family who may become new potential customers
- to send a call to action
- to get more views for your website aka leads that may turn into sales later on
- to inform people living in a certain area that you’ve opened a new branch or location
However, if you’re just buying people’s numbers from third party companies and sending them messages without knowing if they are part of your consumer-base, or spamming them instead of just one message then those are not only not effective but can negatively impact your brand with below
- word of mouth of how your brand or company sends annoying messages and is perceived poorly
- the message gets deleted and the number blocked
So my verdict is, that they work personally for me. They help keep me up to date with promotions and offers and are super easy to opt-out of for ones that I don’t care about. Just wish more brands I care about actually use this, as I remember signing up and giving my number to a few, especially for promo messages, and never getting anything! (what did you guys do with that list of info, is all I’m wondering?) However, it is a very subjective method and can be a negative experience for someone else, so make sure to experiment on a small scale before going ahead.
What about you my reader, do you enjoy or hate these messages? Let me know in the comments.
Till next time 🙂 !
