TikTok Comments

So most of us currently spend a lot of time on TikTok. (If you don’t, really? have you seen the dog videos? really? have you seen the painting videos? really? have you seen the house renovation multi-series videos?)

Anywho, for the rest of us getting sucked into different rabbit holes on TikTok, I’ve started to pay more attention to the comments (as a viewer not as a creator) and started to think they’re becoming half of the experience.

Take a simple example of a video with 500k likes, you’d assume many users are agreeing with it if you just see it, then scroll. But, if you check the comments sometimes the most liked comment which could have that same amount of likes or even more is an opposite argument to the video itself.

It’s where you find out if the content is copied if other viewers relate or find it unrealistic if it is inaccurate info or info removed out of its context and twisted basically. In the best-case scenario, you find lots of funny comments to vibe with and it makes the experience more wholesome.

Of course, it is not all rainbows, some comment sections are just vile or stupid and for those, I’d say indeed let’s skip them (for now at least, till we find a better alternative, a dislike button would be really handy TikTok)

It is however a great case study of how comments can prevent videos from turning into fake or inaccurate news or info. That is if people scroll to read the comments before sharing the content itself.

What do you think? Do you check the comments or scroll to the next piece of content?

Till Next time 🙂 !
